RELEASE DAY!! The Forgotten Ones by Laura Howard

At the Other End:

Allison O'Malley just graduated from college. Her life's plan is to get a job and take care of her schizophrenic mother. She doesn't have room for friends or even Ethan, who clearly wants more. When Allison's long-lost father shows up, he claims he can bring her mother back from the dark place her mind has sent her. He reveals legends of a race of people long forgotten, the Tuatha de Danaan, along with the truth about why he abandoned her mother.

Laura HowardAuthor Bio:

Laura Howard lives in New Hampshire with her husband and four children. Her  obsession with books began at the age of 6 when she got her first library card. Nancy Drew, Sweet Valley High and other girly novels were routinely devoured in single sittings. Books took a backseat to diapers when she had her first child. It wasn’t until the release of a little novel called Twilight, 8 years later, that she rediscovered her love of fiction. Soon after, her own characters began to make themselves known. The Forgotten Ones is her first published novel.

Shhh... Don't Tell:

“Allison?” His voice was soft and serious, sounding warning bells in my mind.

“Mm-hmm?” I was afraid to look at him, afraid of the way he said my name, so I kept looking at the sky.
“I want to know why you never date,” he said.
I opened my mouth, but I couldn’t come up with an appropriate answer so I closed it.
“You could have anyone you wanted. Why is it you’re always alone?” I could feel his eyes on me as I stared into the star-studded night.
“Anyone I wanted? That’s a little excessive.”
“Come on, I’m being serious.”
I sighed, trying to think of the right response, one he would understand. “I guess I’m just always busy.”
He chuckled. “Everyone is busy. You have to give me a better reason than that.”
My mouth felt like cotton. Why did I have such a hard time forming coherent sentences when he was looking at me like that? I licked my lips and looked over at him. He stared directly into my eyes, the question still hanging between us.
“I want to take care of my mother. It’s all I want. So, I need to make that happen.” I curled my fingers into fists and pulled my shoulders back, looking back up at the stars. I’d had this conversation countless times with Nicole over the years.
“I know you do,” he said softly. I glanced back at him, surprised he wasn’t telling me that what I wanted was ridiculous. “But...who will take care of you?”
“I will take care of me.” I shook my head sadly. “My whole life everyone has had to take care of me. My grandparents, my aunt and uncle. They all sacrificed so much for me.”
“You act like it’s your fault, but it’s not.”
Now I was back in familiar territory. “My mother was normal before I was born, Ethan. When I came along she began her descent into schizophrenia. You don’t think that’s connected?”
He shifted in his seat. “I just know sometimes things happen, things that can’t be explained. But you still deserve to be happy.”
I glanced over at him before looking down at my hands. I uncurled my fingers. “I am happy. I’m enrolling in grad school, working and saving the money I make at the store. It’s what I want.”
“But what about friends? What about fun?”
“My idea of fun is just different from yours, I guess. I don’t need to be with a lot of people to be happy.” I hoped he would pick up the double entendre of my answer.
Ethan sighed and turned his body to face mine. He reached up and lightly traced a finger down my cheek. A shiver ran through my body. I turned my face away and focused my attention on finishing my ice cream. There were people everywhere. I didn’t want anything that happened between me and Ethan to be the subject of town gossip.
“Thanks for coming tonight,” Ethan said, unaffected. He reached down and picked up my left hand, interlacing his strong fingers with mine. “It seems like I’ve been trying to get you to go out with me forever.”
I stared down at our joined hands, too shocked to move. “Ethan, you’ve never had a lack of dates. I’d even say you’ve had more than your fair share.”
He ducked his head and laughed. “You think I’m a jerk, don’t you?”
I looked at him and smiled. “No. I don’t, actually. What you did today, for my grandparents… that was really great. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. It was no big deal.” He squeezed my hand and jumped down from the tailgate. “I’m going to take you home now, while you still think I’m so great.”

BLOG TOUR!! Chemistry of Fate by Meradeth Houston

At the Other End:
“They are everywhere, can be anyone, and are always the last person you’d expect.” When Tom stumbles across his grandfather’s journal, he’s convinced the old man was crazier than he thought. The book contains references to beings called the Sary, immortals who are assigned to save humans on the verge of suicide. They certainly aren’t allowed to fall in love with mortals. Which the journal claims Tom’s grandfather did, resulting in his expulsion from the Sary. As strange as the journal seems, Tom can’t get the stories out of his head; especially when he finds the photo of his grandfather’s wings.

Tom’s only distraction is Ari, the girl he studies with for their chemistry class.

Ari has one goal when she arrives in town: see how much Tom knows about the Sary and neutralize the situation. This isn’t a normal job, but protecting the secrecy of the Sary is vital. If Tom is a threat to exposing the Sary to the public, fate has a way of taking care of the situation, usually ending with the mortal’s death. While Ari spends time with Tom, he becomes more than just an assignment, but how far can a relationship go when she can’t tell him who she really is? When she finds out just how much Tom actually knows about the Sary, Ari is forced to choose between her wings, and her heart.

THE CHEMISTRY OF FATE is a companion to COLORS LIKE MEMORIES and is set before the latter takes place. It is geared toward an upper YA, or New Adult audience.

Author Bio:

Meradeth’s never been a big fan of talking about herself, but if you really want to know, here are some random tidbits about her:
>She’s a Northern California girl, but now lives and teaches anthropology in Montana.
>When she’s not writing, she’s sequencing dead people’s DNA. For fun!
>She’s been writing since she was 11 years old. It's her hobby, her passion, and she’s so happy to get to share her work!
>If she could have a super-power, it would totally be flying. Which is a little strange, because she’s terrified of heights.

Take A Seat. Get Strapped In. Let's Go For A Ride:

1. Where have we seen you before? (previous projects/works)
Hi! I’m the author of Colors Like Memories, and if you happen to get around the anthropology field, you may have seen me there too J.

2. What goes through your mind after your novel has been on sale for the first week?
“Oh please, please, please let some people like it! And if more people would pick up a copy, I’d love them forever.”

3. What inspired you to write this novel?
I’m a really big fan of journaling, so that was a huge source of inspiration for this novel. Tom’s grandfather left behind a journal with a very important secret, which plays a central role!

4. What do you think about when getting/seeing negative reviews?
I try to remind myself that it’s impossible to please everyone, and everyone has different taste. There have been plenty of books that some people love but I didn’t enjoy. And then, with some reviews, I kind of wish I could hex people J. Nothing terrible, but maybe make their toes itch for a few days or something!

5. How long was the writing/planning process?
I wrote the first take on this novel during a couple of months. Then decided to re-vamp it, which took about four months. Overall, probably six months.

6. What was your reaction to the cover art when you saw it for the first time? Did you have any ideas from the days of writing/inspiration?
I was totally amazed! I love this cover. I had plenty of thoughts and ideas from when I was writing, and this cover was completely different, but it’s so pretty I was blown away!

7. Any plans for future writing projects? Any being worked on now?
-I’m currently working on a very different book, along with the third Sary book, which I’m currently attempting to revise.

8. Top 5 books
• A Wrinkle In Time by Madeline L’Engle
• The Raven Boys by Maggie Steifvater
• Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor
• The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon
• The Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters

9. What book/s from other authors do you wish you had written?
A Wrinkle In Time For certain. And if I’m dreaming, Harry Potter J.

10. Why read your novel?
If you’re looking for a fun read with lots of impossible romance and a really sweet guy, Chemistry is for you!
